Hi, Lisa Leonard Dalton here. You know me as the "Sloopy Girl" dancer. People often ask me when I filmed the Sloopy dance.
That video came out in Europe in 1975. Rick Derringer had been the frontman with his group the McCoys and they had hit big with "Hang On Sloopy" in 1965.
But when I danced at MGM Hollywood in 1975, Rick was updating the song, adding a marimba and steel drums.
Many of the online videos of my dance, unfortunately, are labeled as ‘60s and they include the wrong music track.
Here at my website and at my YouTube channel I will set the record straight.
We have made lots of progress in that regard since I first revealed my identity as the Sloopy Girl dancer in the fall of 2021.

A Decade Later

My last name before marriage was Leonard. Here are the five Leonard sisters. You can tell from the calendar on the wall that this is from 1986.
That was just 11 years after I filmed the Sloopy dance. There are lots of online photos of me at Gazzarri's club on the Sunset Strip, doing the Sloopy dance and recent pictures. But not all that many from in between. Can you identify me in the picture? PS... Look for the shiny earring.

This photo is from July 2024. I was visiting Langley, WA on Whidbey Island with my sisters and brother-in-law. In Langley, I first met Steven Smith who has worked with me on my Sloopy Girl videos.

Sloopy Girl Smile

I have been told that my smile (2010 photo on the right) is identical to the smile on my face during the Sloopy Girl dance that was filmed so many years before. I think they’re right!

Lisa identified as "Sloopy Girl" dancer

"Deconstructing a Myth: the Sloopy Girl," a documentary from autumn 2021, for the first time revealed the identity of the dancing Sloopy Girl as Lisa Leonard Dalton. Online rumors and misleading information had led to a myth that another woman might be the dancer. But this documentary set the record straight. A year after the release of "Deconstructing," Rick Derringer confirmed on social media that 19-year-old Lisa was the sexy dancer in the internationally famous 1975 “Hang On Sloopy” video.

The Sloopy Film Location

For years people asked where I filmed the "Hang On Sloopy" dance with Rick Derringer in 1975. I lived in Woodland Hills at the time near Los Angeles and Hollywood. So it didn't take me long to drive to the address they gave me a few days before. The film shoot was at the most storied studio in all of Hollywood and I revealed the name of the studio in the REVEALED video at my Sloopy Girl YouTube channel.
